President Donald J. Trump has announced his support for Bitcoin self custody during a speech at the Libertarian National Convention in Washington D.C. on the night of 25 May 2024. Trump’s campaign has also recently started accepting bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as donations.
President Trump stated during his speech, “I will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of bitcoin will be made in the USA, not driven overseas. I will support the right of self custody. To the nation’s fifty million crypto holders, I say this with your vote, I will keep Elizabeth Warren and her goons away from your bitcoin. And, I will never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC).”
The topic of Bitcoin and crypto has now become mainstream in the political landscape in the months leading up to the November 2024 presidential election. It will be interesting to see if the Biden administration backtracks on their anti-bitcoin and anti-crypto stances now that the topic is becoming a one-policy voting issue for many pro-bitcoin citizens.
