The owner of the dog named Kabosu announced on X today that Kabosu has passed away peacefully. Kabosu is the Shiba Inu dog behind the dogecoin cryptocurrency memecoin. Dogecoin was created on 6 December 2013 by software engineers, Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer, who created the dogecoin cryptocurrency as a joke to make fun of the wild speculation in cryptocurrencies at the time. Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency with a blockchain that operates on proof-of-work (Pow). Dogecoin is often confused as being a “token” like many other memecoins that are contracts based off of Ethereum, BNB, and Solana. However, Dogecoin is actually more similar to Bitcoin due to the peer-to-peer network and associated mining to receive dogecoins as a reward.
Billy Markus designed Dogecoin’s protocol based on existing cryptocurrencies, Luckycoin and Litecoin, which use scrypt technology in their PoW algorithm. This type of PoW does not allow the use of SHA-256 mining equipment used for mining Bitcoin. Dogecoin uses an open-source protocol and software Dogecoin Core, similar to Bitcoin Core, to connect to the Dogecoin blockchain. You can set up a personal dogecoin node in the same manner as a personal bitcoin node. Dogecoin Core and Bitcoin Core operate similarly. Dogecoin Core uses Comic Sans font, which is one of the ways dogecoin pokes fun of cryptocurrencies.
Dogecoin is often one of the first cryptocurrencies that users receive or buy as a gateway to becoming a Bitcoin enthusiast, due to its lighthearted nature and funny memes. The memes created using Kabosu’s images will live on forever in cyberspace.
Rest in peace Kabosu.
